The preparation for the worlds has started for real with a great camp in Malevik, a little bit south of Gothenburg. The focus during the camp has been boat speed but we have also been working on our technique and some team racing.
The weather has been more or less perfect for sailing, the temperatures have been close or at 30 degrease every day and the wind has been between 4-20 knots. There are not a lot of these days in Sweden during a year!
The third day the breeze kicked in around 3 a clock we finally got some wind form the sea. Then we got the opportunity to sail in some waves and more stable wind. The waves got a little shoppy which it something we want to sail in because we expect the waves to be like that during the worlds.
The last day we choose to focus on team racing. The sailors felt it was enough speed checking for the camp so we change the plan. We did different exercises when we sailed 3 vs 2 and focused on different mark roundings and last up winds. The sailors start to act more and more as a team but we need to keep working on the communication between each other.
During these four days everyone have been trying different set-ups. Some sailors have tried out some new gear, Marius tried a stiffer mast with good results and the sailors have switch boats and tried each other’s gear. This has been a good exercise and the sailors have been forced to get out of their comfort zone.
During the evenings the team got time to get to know each other even better. Everyone got some time alone with the coach to talk about his or her goals and expectations. All sailors seems to be happy and satisfied with the camp and me as coach think we got a lot of good sailing out on the water and I got to know everyone better.
Last I want to thank Westerlinds for their hospitality and generosity. Everyone has been staying in their home during the week and they help us fixing food and everything we needed! Thanks!
